History
Jeans were first made with heavy canvas. But they were later made with a denim fabric.
On April 18,1906, the San Francisco earthquake and damaging fires destroyed his two factories and headquarters: Levi Strauss & Co. Employees still got their salaries, and temporary headquarters were opened to keep their employees working. This is when most their information was lost and and burned. A new factory and headquarters were built in San Francisco the next year.

But the stitching was part of their trade mark so they decided to paint it on. Although it washed off it was the mostly important to have it on when customers bought the pants.
